Personal Reflections
Surrendering All to Christ
Based on John 17:6
"I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.”
Material possessions are a dangerous thing. We don’t own them. They generally own us.
But what truly possesses us? Is it the God who we serve? Is it Jesus Christ, he who was crucified to die for our sins and who then rose three days later in victory over death, who bought us at a great price?
And if it is he who possesses us, are we possessed by him? Do we allow him that surrender of who we are to who he is? Have we given him everything that he might truly possess us or are we guarding something from him?
Jesus doesn’t want partial people. His sacrifice on the cross wasn’t so we could have some place to go on Sunday morning. It wasn’t so we could have another book to read or another label to put on ourselves or more friends or even something deep to study.
He died that we might live.
It was all or nothing.
His whole life was about securing our lives for eternity. If Jesus Christ failed in his life then we were doomed. And he didn’t just die for some, not just for me or you or the pastor of the church down the street or the missionary or the pygmies in Africa. He died for all.
What am I going to do about it?
Will I live because he died for me? Will my life be abundant because I am his? Will I turn over all that I am so that I become clay in the potter’s hands?
What am I going to do about it?
